Crazy Quilt

I have a lovely DIY project for you today, and another to add to my Summer holiday to-do-with-Alice list! It’s a crazy , but easy (<-- I like), quilt from Abbyholverson on Instructables

I think it’s a brilliant idea for a memory quilt, using up your baby and maybe maternity clothes. Do a good enough job and you could keep it for the grandkids!

You start with one irregular, straight-edged shape. Then add 2” strips around it, one by one. So instead of the usual square based quilt, you get an irregular pattern, one which I would imagine is easier to maintain!

And how pretty it is! Add buttons or beads or embroidery, or leave it in its natural form – it’s equally gorgeous.

You could use this to make a quilted blanket, or a throw, or a cushion cover, or a wall-hanging – the list goes on! Head over to Instructables for the full details. Please share if you have a go!

Shabby chic and so beautiful…

Why does peeling paint look so pretty? It’s kind of odd that something that looks so old and worn can also look so lovely. But old furniture comes with a story, and I think it’s the sense it had a life before you owned it that makes it totally charming. Whatever attracts the eye to the dated look, there’s no denying that shabby chic is one of the biggest styles around! And you can even apply it to your child’s room, just as Mandy Lynne has done so beautifully in her daughter’s room.

A mix of pastels and patchwork, embroidered art and an assortment of precious finds it’s a little girl’s dream…

And photographer Mandy also sells beautiful prints in her Etsy shop Skippy Designs that would look lovely on a child’s walls…

OK so maybe they’re a little young for cocktails; those ones are just for you ;)

Ceiling hoops

The embroidery hoops are back with a vengeance! This team they’ve teamed up to form a big gang and strewn their selves across a ceiling. And oh doesn’t it look bloomin’ wonderful?! Another fantastic decor idea for your little one’s room…

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any more awesome… those white animals you see painted on the hoops are glow-in-the-dark! Eek! I love!
