Reindeer dust

I went to make some granola this morning but couldn’t source the oats. Turns out my mum (a teacher) had taken them to school to make reindeer dust! As this Christmas craft is new to me I thought I’d share it in case it’s new to some of you parents out there too :)

It’s stupidly simple, just mix oats with glitter… but it’s the idea behind it that’s magical. For a long time children have been leaving a sweet treat and a tipple for Santa, which is all very well when he’s inside your house delivering presents. But what if he has trouble finding your house? Santa’s a busy man so the easier you make it from him to locate you, the better…

By making some reindeer dust to sprinkle on your garden you can help guide the reindeers there. And when I say ‘you’ I of course really mean your children…

This could easily be another one of those family traditions that mean so much at Christmas :)

Little Sapling Toys

Revisiting this old post because Little Sapling Toys are still great AND they’re a fantastic idea for Christmas gifts!

I’m sure children don’t care if their toys are plastic or wooden but I do! I absolutely adore wooden toys and although I’ll buy my child plastic toys (if they absolutely insist!) I’m still going to be purchasing a lot of beautiful wooden toys hoping they’ll become as fond of them as I am!

Idaho-based Little Sapling Toys create stunning wooden toys that they intend to be passed from generation to generation. Made from Maple, Cherry and Walnut woods together with their own beeswax and organic jojoba oil finish, these toys are to be cherished rather than chucked! And, as they are conscious of the environment, they sell their toys in recycled packaging and plant a tree for every toy sold.

Teething toys

Their teething toys are easily the nicest I have seen and I love that your little one could be chewing on a tooth!

Gorgeous grain

The grain of the wood and the variations in colour between different wood types makes these toys truly beautiful…

And for any photographers that view this blog, I’m sure you may well want these next personalised products for your children. Get them introduced to a camera early, even if it does mean them chewing on one ;)

Camera

With a spinning selector ‘switch’ and a lens that turns as if to focus I’d quite like a personalised wooden camera myself! :D

‘Green’ Trees

One of my favourite things about Christmas is walking through the living room door to the smell of Christmas tree. It takes me back to my childhood, every time. However, not everyone can stand the mess or the faff of a real tree and so today I have an alternative which is not only mess free, it’s more ‘green’ than a real tree and it allows the children to put their mark on it too! A Cardboard Christmas Tree from Letter Fest.

The paper used comes from sustainable forests, which means that for every tree that is cut down, a replacement is planted. The trees are available in 2 sizes – 140cm tall for £40 or 67cm tall for £25, 2 colours – natural or white, and all come flat packed. Head over to Letter Fest now to see these trees and loads more amazing products!
