Thunder and Lightening and Thor

We have shown you the beautiful work of The Indigo Bunting before, in Debs’ When I Was Born post. Today I have some lovely party favours for you, that Erin made for her nephew Jacob’s 5th, Thunder-and-Lightening-and-Thor-in-an-airplane party!

The ace favour bags were printed with an image of the birthday boy as Thor, designed and made for the party by Erin. These contained fruit bars wrapped in homemade themed labels, rock candy swizzle sticks and purple chocolate balls, spinning tops and best of all, homemade tattoos! What a brilliant favour idea! I didn’t know you could buy tattoo paper to print yourself. Thank you The Indigo Bunting!

Head to Erin’s sister’s blog, Mount Custard for more pictures of this awesome party!

Beatrice’s Sunshine and Rainbows party

Today I want to show you a very special party. It’s my youngest, Beatrice’s, first birthday party! With a sunshine and rainbows theme, in pastel shades because she’s still our baby, we had lots of lovely colours all over the house, and the kids loved it (as did I)!

The food consisted of rainbow sandwiches (wrapped in coloured tissue paper), rainbow cone snacks, sunshine jellies, milkshake and Beatrice’s birthday cake was a sunshine with a rainbow of rainbow drop cakes! The party bags had ‘you are my sunshine’ labels, were filled with pastel coloured goodies and multi-coloured pom-poms which were handmade for the guests by our 7 year old, Alice.

We did absolutely everything ourselves, including making all of the food, the decorations and Beatrice’s tutu and I have put together a number of very simple DIY tutorials to show how to do it all yourself over the next few weeks :)Click here for the balloon wreath tutorial.

Here are some of Beatrice’s lovely friends, and a very tired birthday girl at the end of the day!

She had a wonderful time. Thank you to everyone who shared her special day :)

Decorating gingerbread

I have a lovely idea for a party today thanks to photographers Daria & Andy. I spotted their Annual Gingerbread House Decorating Party on their blog and had to ask if I could share! True this is extremely well suited to Christmastime (gingerbread just is Christmas in my eyes) but if you remember the famous fairytale of Hansel & Gretel with its house built of sweets then you can easily make this work any time for a child’s party. And I bet they’d have a lot of fun making these. Maybe more eating them :)

Prepare the party houses

You will need to bake and assemble the houses before the party so the little ones can purely concentrate on the fun part… decorating! Daria & Andy used a recipe and pattern they found here. It’s a good idea to assemble each house on an individual cake board so you can move them easily afterwards. If you’re wondering what the tins seen in the photo are for they’re just to hold the roof up whilst the icing set…

Selecting sweets

Give each child an individual bowl to collect the sweets of their choice. With this party being at Christmas there are some quite Christmassy sweets included here but of course you can use absolutely anything, provided there are loads of bright colours and everything tastes yummy!

Decorating deliciously

Make sure each child has enough space to decorate their house, complete with a bowl of icing for the glue and something to apply it with such as a palette knife or spoon…

Yum!

Here are the finished houses and don’t they look amazing! I love that the house in the bottom right image has a hot tub, that’s my kind of house ;)

An awesome party bag

If you buy a roll of cellophane and string for the party you can wrap each house and let the child take it home with them. Then they can spend the next few days eating it…
