So many sprinkles : fun food ideas for children

I’m convinced that adding sprinkles (or ‘hundreds and thousands’ as us Brits know them) to anything makes it better. It’s that simple; everything just looks lovelier with those cute coloured dots (or strands in some cases) attached!

To show you what I mean here’s an assortment of awesome photos, you know, the ones you drool over on Pinterest because the photography is as delicious as the food looks. At least that’s what I do!

I’m pretty sure you could add sprinkles to anything, not just the sweet stuff. They barely taste of anything so occasionally, for a bit of fun, I see no harm in sprinkling this stuff on the savoury stuff such as pizza!

Party planning with sprinkles

And sprinkles are definitely an awesome idea for a party. Put them on everything and it can look as amazing as this…

Apfel Lollies

Those that know a little, or a lot, of German will know that apfel is actually just apple. Although these apple lollies are very similar to the chocolate apples that usually get stocked in supermarkets before Bonfire Night, there’s one difference… they’re sliced before dipped!

This idea, found over at Rosa Rot, makes perfect sense for mini mouths although it’s never crossed my mind before! Good job we have the internet, full of endless ideas that never enter our heads!

These are great for a guilt-free treat to tempt your child. Or even for yourself if you’re eating healthily but just can’t stay away from the chocolate* ;)

* Frozen, chocolate-covered bananas with crystallized ginger are bloomin’ good too. They’re my summer snack of choice when I’m trying to balance out my chocolate habit with fruit!

Push-pops

Cupcakes are soooo boring! Well, they’re not really. I’ll still always be perfectly content with a cupcake (provided it has lots of icing, preferably of the cream cheese variety). But it’s always exciting to see a new take on something you know and love. And I find kids are always fascinated by fun food so, I do believe, these push pop cupcakes would be a huge hit!

To make them yourself just head over to Gourmet Mom On The Go for the tutorial and buy yourself some push pop containers. UK readers can find some over at The Cake Decorating Company.
