Field Candy : camping in awesome tents!

I imagine/hope/pray that the sun may finally make an appearance for longer than a day and with it, if you’re anything like me, you may fancy a a spot of camping! Hopefully your kids will be excited about a tent adventure but if they need a little persuading, or if you just want to look way cooler than every other camper, you should totally check out Field Candy.

You see, they don’t do boring tents at Field Candy, instead each one is a work of art, and often a limited edition one at that! The company works with many different designers and the result is many different tents and many different styles…

Awesome right?!

I’m sure the children would be way more excited by a Field Candy tent than a single colour tent! And if you happen to be looking for a tent for just you and your partner then definitely get yourself over to the
website as there are lots more to see.

Happy camping!

Nursery inspiration : Calvin & Hobbes

As a teenager I loved Calvin & Hobbes. I used to read the books compiling numerous awesome comic strips of the cheeky six-year-old and his pet tiger Hobbes (who appeared stuffed to everybody else, but was very much a real life tiger to Calvin).

I must dig out the books and rediscover those comics really, and if you haven’t ever read any I suggest you give them a go :)

Anyway, the reason I talk of them is because I spotted this delightful mural, over on My Modern Met, featuring Calvin & Hobbes that would be lovely for a little one’s bedroom…

The comics aren’t actually aimed at children but this is the sort of nursery that both Calvin & Hobbes-loving parents and children can get a kick out of… as to children, a young boy having a pet tiger is still a cool concept!

A comic creation

And now, before I sign off, I’ll leave you with a few examples of Bill Watterson’s brilliant creation…

Take-G Wooden Toys

Now, I have to apologise up front because it’s highly unlikely you’ll be able to buy these AMAZING Take-G wooden toys, but I could just not resist sharing them because they look so good! The Japanese man that makes them only runs a tiny craft shop with his wife and although you can buy other lovely wooden toys he makes, these wooden robots are made mainly with exhibitions in mind. Sad face.

Uniting the past & future

Still, I think you’ll appreciate looking at them, and the sentiment behind them :)

As the creator, Nakagawa, explains:

“I often get asked ‘Why do you make robots with wood?’ I don’t really have an exact answer for it but I often relate my robots with ‘future.’ I don’t think humans can live without trees no matter what advances technology makes. When I think of ‘future,’ I cannot help thinking of ‘past’ at the same time. Trees take a long time (tens and hundreds years) to grow and show us their beauty (the product of their past). I think that I have responsibilities as a craftsman and an artist of breathing new life into these trees. I have a job to link 100 years in the past and 100 years in the future through my work. These are my values toward my work.

Sadly this just makes me want one even more…
