Little Trekkers - Outdoor ideas for kids

As we are fast approaching holiday season (but nobody told the weather yet), I thought it timely to remind you about Little Trekkers and this post that I featured last Spring. :)

We just got back from our first camping trip with Beatrice, and it was wonderful! It reminded me how much children just need to be outside. They absolutely thrive on it. In the rain or wind or mud, it doesn’t matter. Wellies and waterproofs are all they need to entertain themselves for hours! Ask them if they like nature and they’ll probably tell you it’s boring, but stick them in the thick of it and just watch them bloom!

Little Trekkers

Little Trekkers know all about this. Not only do they sell pretty much everything you could possibly need for outdoor activities – from clothing to cycling accessories, and sun shelters to sand pits – but they also have loads of ideas for outdoor activities with the kids, brilliant DIY tutorials to keep them busy, great recipes to share and lots, lots more!

So the next time you hear the kids say ‘we’re bored!’, or your picnic plans are scuppered by the weather, head over to Little Trekkers for some great outdoor ideas that don’t rely on sunshine :)

Track Tile Tables

If your mealtimes are anything like ours, you will spend the majority of them reminding your youngest to stay seated at the table. Our 2 and a half year old has just migrated from her high chair (with straps) to a standard chair (without) and she’s making the most of her new found freedom! She is gradually coming round to the idea of staying at the table but I found something that would remove the need for encouragement - Track Tile tables from Three Foot Three Design. These are amazing wooden tables with train tracks built in! Passing the salt just got very interesting!

There are a number of designs to choose from, and accessories from trains and carriages to place mats that look like fields. And, in case you don’t always want train tracks on your table (what?!) the tiles are reversible, so you can have a plain old boring table for when you’re in a plain old boring mood.

I love these tables and I’m sure the kids would too! Such a fantastic idea! You can find more details over on the Track Tile tables website.

Chore chart

A chore chart is a great way to get older kids to do some jobs around the house, often in exchange for a reward such as pocket money. But chore charts can also work really well with little ones, introducing them to the tasks that you’d like to get them into the habit of doing daily.

Depending on their age, some chores they may need help with but eventually they’ll be able to do them all on their own. And by placing a sticker on the chore chart the tasks will be more fun and less forgetful!

Danyelle of dandee created a chore chart for two of her five children, Audrey (3) and Oliver (2). She wanted to encourage the daily tasks of making their beds, getting dressed, clearing their dishes from the table, brushing their teeth and putting away toys.

It’s a lovely clean design and very simple to use. For more info, and to download the chart yourself, just head over to this post on dandee.
