I am revisiting this post today from 2011 because I put it on my to-do list back then and I still haven’t to-done it! So it’s a reminder to myself and also to all you lovely people, especially those who have only joined us since then and maybe didn’t get to see it the first time around…
I have a lovely DIY project for you today, and another to add to my Summer holiday to-do-with-Alice list! It’s a crazy , but easy (<-- I like), quilt from Abbyholverson on Instructables
I think it’s a brilliant idea for a memory quilt, using up your baby and maybe maternity clothes. Do a good enough job and you could keep it for the grandkids!
You start with one irregular, straight-edged shape. Then add 2” strips around it, one by one. So instead of the usual square based quilt, you get an irregular pattern, one which I would imagine is easier to maintain!
And how pretty it is! Add buttons or beads or embroidery, or leave it in its natural form – it’s equally gorgeous.

You could use this to make a quilted blanket, or a throw, or a cushion cover, or a wall-hanging – the list goes on! Head over to Instructables for the full details. Please share if you have a go!
