You may have already come across Walkers’ new crisp range, ‘Hoops and Crosses’ as they are available to buy from lots of retailers already. When they asked us to review them for the blog, I jumped at the chance. There are so many snacks out there, lots of them geared towards children, but not very many of them that I would feel comfortable feeding to my two. My general rule of thumb is, if I don’t understand the ingredients list, it doesn’t go in the trolley! And that rules out the majority of even the so-called ‘healthy’ snacks.
Walkers Hoops and Crosses are made of 57% wholegrain corn meal with no artificial colours or preservatives. They come in three flavours – all suitable for vegetarians (prawn cocktail, roast beef, salt and vinegar) and each bag has only 85 calories. Each bag also has only 0.27g of salt (salt being another pet hate of mine!), so that’s another box ticked.
On top of all that, they taste pretty good too! We were sent a bag of the roast beef flavour and when I asked Beatrice what she thought, she said, “Can I have some more?”, which is a pretty positive review I think! She didn’t quite understand the hoops and crosses game… In fact Monkey wearing them as glasses was her favourite ‘game’ to play with them! That and making them into wedding rings.
Our overall verdict: Hoops and Crosses are a healthy, tasty and interesting snack that we would be happy to include in our lunchboxes! Thank you Walkers!
