There are some toys that last forever. Not literally most of the time (though if you keep them in the box they might!) but there are toys that have been, and will be, loved by generations. For example, Debs’ favourites, Playmobile and Sylvanian families. When I take my girls to Debs’ house, I don’t generally get a word out of them the entire time, because they are too busy rearranging (and sometimes losing) all of her figurines!
Now they have been loved by Debs for *cough* 20ish *cough* years already, yet my children love them just as much and it’s probably safe to say that their children will likely be as enamoured too. It’s strange to think that toys that were trendy when I was a kid, are still (or perhaps again) cool now! You always expect things to change, but sometimes, some things, just stick. And usually with good reason.
Nostalgia this Noël
This year, there are plenty of ‘retro’ toys to choose from. From Cabbage Patch Kids to Carebears and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Toy Story’s, Buzz Lightyear (can you believe the first Toy Story film was released in 1996?! – That really makes me feel old). So there really are lots of options if you’re looking for something that you know will stand the test of time.
What are your children asking for this year? Have you been surprised to see toys that were once on your Christmas list?! I can’t wait to see what Santa brings for our two :)
