I’m going to begin this blog with one of my very favourite illustrators. Mandy Sutcliffe is the talent behind Belle & Boo: a collection of artworks named after two of Mandy’s favourite creations. Belle is inspired by Mandy’s own childhood and Boo is Belle’s furry bunny companion. Her work is a beautiful blend of vintage and contemporary. The clothes her creations wear, the colour palette and the activities shown in the illustrations have a lovely sense of nostalgia; playing at pirates, climbing trees, constantly being outside… it’s the childhood I had and one I hope my children will have (rather than being indoors playing games consoles).
However, despite the illustrations being very reminiscent of a vintage era they still come across as very contemporary and would be perfect for your little one’s nursery or bedroom. Like with many things I’ll be showing on this blog they’re also perfectly lovely for an adult too: me and my Mum both own a Belle & Boo print!
Pretty products
Mandy has created so many gorgeous prints suitable for both boys and girls:
To complement the prints, the beautiful world of Belle & Boo has also made it on to homewares…
… and the cutest clothes:
I want that coat in adult size!
I absolutely love this book with activities for your child:
And with Christmas coming up I should point out there’s a whole load of lovely Christmas cards and funny ‘Little Madam’ decorations (that can also double up as tooth fairies due to a handy little pocket on the back!)
Special editions
And if you’ve happened to fall in love with Belle & Boo as much as I have then this limited edition box set is well worth a purchase:
Created for Anorak magazine, Mandy called upon her friend and writer Victoria Williams to write a lovely poem to accompany the illustrations of one of Belle & Boo’s adventures.
Dress-up doll
My absolute favourite, however, uses not only a nostalgic illustration style but is nostalgic in itself… a paper doll! I so loved paper dolls when I was a child. My Mum had some amazing ones from her own childhood and I loved repeatedly redressing those dolls. In my opinion, all little girls should have paper dolls at some point, even better that they’re this adorable:
Wrap it right
If you decide that a Belle & Boo product is perfect for your little one or a friend or even for you then there’s a whole host of pretty papers, tapes and tags to finish off that gift in Belle & Boo style…

Just all so adorable!
